Update
After a nerve-racking few hours, we have come to an agreement with the landlord and put down a deposit. They've agreed to our proposed move in date and to kittens, and we didn't even need to sweeten the deal with the extra deposit and longer lease we were prepared to offer. Tomorrow we put in the formal application and hopefully I can report back in the next couple of days. Assuming all goes well, we'll be moving in on the 25th of November.

Congratulations!!! I hope it all goes smoothly. As for kittens, one of my friends in melbourne recently had her cat leave one of it's claws in her hand, which she then had to remove, so be careful your cat is a nice one, and that it doesn't get stuck in a cat door and then need rescuing....
I'm not sure if you ever met psycho-kitten, Kaiser, who one minute was cute and affectionate (if very, very large) and the next was launching himself at me Monty Python rabbit style. I remember one time him attaching himself to my leg for a good few minutes as I was trying to leave the house. I walked from one end of a large queenslander to the other with his claws altogether too many mms in my leg. I miss that cat!
Congratulations. You must be very pleased.
As for kittens, I'm sure you've already started looking (you seem kinda organised like that) but in case you haven't, www.celiahammond.org is a good place to start.
Congrats on getting the unit. As for cats, if Forbes keeps waking us up at 4am he may need a trip to England.
As much as we loved having them, England might be just a little too far to go for a kitten-sitter :)
